13 Years of Peacebuilding
The Peacebuilders Initiative was an innovative program of the Bernardin Center that prepared Catholic high school youth for leadership roles in peacemaking, reconciliation, and conflict transformation, and inspired them to consider ministry as a life choice.
Peacebuilders are high school students with vision and enthusiasm, who believe in peacebuilding and reconciliation, and are willing to explore faith in a community of other teens and mentors. Through the Peacebuilders Initiative, Catholic Theological Union (CTU) attempted to tap the potential of a new generation of faith leaders.
The Peacebuilders Initiative was funded by Lilly Endowment Inc., in their effort to create programs that engaged young people in theological learning and encouraged them to explore Christian ministry as their life's work.
Running from 2003-2015, the Initiative has now ended, but the legacy of the 500 or more participants who have gone through the program remains--one that attests to the initiative's lasting effect on bringing peace and justice to various parts of the world through the gifts of such talented, energetic, and Christ-like teenagers.
