The Judeo-Christian tradition posits the origin of the universe as a divinely intended and realized moment that attains fulfillment in the saving mystery of the risen Christ. In popular perception this movement unfolds with predictable linearity. The intense debate on global warming and climate change stresses the imperative and urgency of “saving the planet,” a rhetoric that contains resonances of God’s promise to re-create or create the earth anew. Viewed through the prism indigenous religions, creation-salvation axis forms a “soteriological loop” that understands creation as regeneration. The dynamic components of this loop offer some innovative thinking as part of the contribution of systematic theology to the discourse on climate change and integrity of creation.
