CHICAGO – Catholic Theological Union (CTU) will present an honorary Doctorate in Theology to Luis Antonio Tagle, Cardinal Archbishop of Manila, Philippines, at its 47th annual commencement ceremony. Honorary degrees are conferred annually by the faculty and Board of Trustees upon individuals whose contributions to the fields of scholarship and service reflect the values to which Catholic Theological Union is committed.

CHICAGO – The Rev. Donald P. Senior, C.P., currently president emeritus of Catholic Theological Union (CTU), has been named chancellor by the CTU Board of Trustees and Corporate Members. The appointment was formalized at the Board of Trustees meeting on April 27, 2015. The role of CTU’s chancellor will be to represent the institution at various external events at the request of the president.

CHICAGO – Catholic Theological Union (CTU) has promoted four members of its faculty to new positions, three of whom are members of the Society of the Divine Word, Chicago Province. After almost 30 years of dedicated service at CTU, Professor Stephen Bevans, SVD, will retire at the end of this academic year. He has been awarded the title Professor Emeritus of Mission and Culture and will become the Emeritus Holder of the Louis J. Luzbetak Chair of Theology and Culture.

CHICAGO - On April 29, 2015, Catholic Theological Union (CTU) will honor world-renowned physician and anthropologist Dr. Paul Farmer with its Blessed are the Peacemakers Award at the annual Blessed are the Peacemakers Trustee Dinner. The awardis presented to an individual or institution whose accomplishments and commitments embody the mission of CTU, particularly in the areas of reconciliation, justice, and peacemaking. Past winners have included Mary McAleese, Sargent Shriver, and Stephen Spielberg.

CHICAGO – The new Center for the Study of Consecrated Life will launch at Catholic Theological Union (CTU) on February 12, 2015. The goal of the center is to engage in global dialogue and research on contemporary issues in consecrated life today. CSCL was created in part as a response to the designation of 2015 as the “Year of Consecrated Life” by Pope Francis.

(CHICAGO, October 15, 2014) The Reverend Mark R. Francis, CSV, president of Catholic Theological Union (CTU), announced that Sr. Maria Cimperman, RSCJ, has been appointed the first director of the Center for the Study of Consecrated Life. The Center will launch in February 2015 in celebration of “The Year of Consecrated Life” designated by Pope Francis to begin on November 30, 2014.

(CHICAGO, August 27, 2014) The board of directors of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation voted on August 19, 2014, to approve a $1 million grant in support of the efforts of Giving Voice in partnership with Catholic Theological Union (CTU) to prepare young Roman Catholic women religious to assume leadership positions in their religious communities, ministries, and the Catholic Church.

CHICAGO (Oct. 30, 2013) On Sunday, October, 27, 2013, Catholic Theological Union (CTU) inaugurated its seventh president, the Rev. Mark R. Francis, CSV, succeeding the Rev. Donald Senior, CP. The inaugural platform party included the Most Rev. Joseph W. Tobin, CSsR, Archbishop of Indianapolis, and the Most Rev. Francis J. Kane, DD, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

CHICAGO, [September 5, 2013] All Hallows College, Dublin, Ireland, has chosen the Rev. Donald Senior, CP, president emeritus of Catholic Theological Union (CTU) in Chicago, as the recipient of the 2013 Daniel O’Connell and Frederick Douglass Irish American Freedom Award. Fr. Senior is being honored for his long-standing commitment and work in the area of justice and ethical leadership. Christopher Kennedy, son of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, will present the award.

CHICAGO [April 16, 2013] At a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Catholic Theological Union (CTU) in Chicago on April 15, 2013, the Rev. Mark R. Francis, C.S.V., was elected to the presidency of CTU. In accepting the post, he succeeds the Rev. Donald Senior, C.P., who is retiring from the office on June 30, 2013. Fr. Senior served as the president of CTU for a total of 23 years. He is scheduled to return to the faculty as Professor of New Testament Studies in the fall of 2013.
