In addition to the requirements of their selected degree program, Bernardin Scholars participate in the following special programs that enhance their education and ministerial formation.
The Bernardin Colloquia consists of monthly seminars and theological reflection conducted by the Director of the Bernardin Center. Cardinal Bernardin’s colleagues and trusted advisors, as well as experts in his signature issues, are featured in the seminars.
Apprenticeship (Master's Degree Scholars)
As part of the scholarship requirement, master's level Bernardin Scholars are apprenticed to Catholic Theological Union (CTU) faculty experts on a signature issue. This opportunity affords the scholar a unique learning experience as well as hands-on practice in the field of interest. The apprenticeship is designed with faculty consultation and approved by the Director of the Bernardin Center.
Mentorship (Doctoral Degree Scholars)
Doctoral level Bernardin Scholars provide leadership and mentoring in the Bernardin Colloquia, applying their ministry experience and pastoral skills to assist the master's level scholars.
