Catholics on Call Receives National Recognition

November 16, 2010

Lk 10:2 “The harvest is rich, but the laborers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send laborers to do the harvesting.”

These words are inscribed on the 2010 Harvest Award presented to Catholics on Call at the National Religious Vocation Conference Convocation 2010 in Cleveland, Ohio, on November 7, 2010. The award was received by Rev. Robin Ryan, C.P., founding director of the program.

According to the National Religious Vocation Conference (NRVC), Catholics on Call was presented this biennial award for its dedicated service and exemplary support of vocation ministry in the Catholic Church. The award is presented to an individual or organization who has provided significant support of vocation ministry.

Catholics on Call is CTU’s national vocational discernment program for young adults.  Through summer conferences, follow-up gatherings, and website resources, Catholic on Call assists young adult Catholics as they seek to discern God’s call in their lives.

Since its inception in 2005, Catholics on Call has hosted more than 300 young women and men at its summer conferences held at CTU. These Catholic young men and women have come from 30 states and the District of Columbia to learn about vocations to religious life, priesthood, or lay ecclesial ministry. In a no-pressure environment, they gain a better understanding of vocation, prayer, and discernment. The goal is for the young adults to acquire the skills needed to help them make future decisions.

In addition to the direct work with young adult Catholics, Catholics on Call provides resources to its 154 partners, which includes religious institutes, universities, parishes, and volunteer organizations. The Annual Partners Conference draws nationally known speakers to assist those in direct ministry to young adults.

Earlier this fall, Catholic on Call released its first book, Catholics on Call: Discerning a Life of Service in the Church, edited by Fr. Robin Ryan, C.P.  Summer Conference presenters contributed to this book that serves as a resource for vocational discernment for both young adults and their adult mentors. Contributors include: Robin Ryan, C.P., editor, Thomas P. Rausch, S.J., Donald Senior, C.P., Sheila McLaughlin, Robert Schreiter, C.PP.S., Charlene Diorka, S.S.J., Bishop Robert Morneau, and Stephen Bevans, S.V.D.
