Spring 2016: Cherubim and Other Angels

Cherubim and Other Angels

Featuring painting and drawings by Jose Aleman Sasieta
Join us for this exhibition of Jose Aleman Sasieta's latest paintings, charcoal drawings, and watercolors. Aleman’s work incorporates multifaceted themes that go beyond Ezekiel's Old Testament visions of Cherubim to include other secular narratives of drones as "angels" and the cosmos as part of contemporary human experience. Through themes of transcendence and destruction, Aleman asks us to ponder the current state of humanity.

Jose Aleman Sasieta is an artist, architect, and educator who has worked on diverse public art space and architecture projects in Chicago. His artwork is in private collections as well as the Museo de Arte de la Casona Cultural at the University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru. Aleman has taught fine art and architectural design at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Harrington College of Design. At DePaul University, he designed and facilitated service learning/social justice courses with the Steans Center for Community-based Service Learning and Community Service Studies.
