Archbishop Oscar Romero was born on August 15, 1917, and was assassinated on March 24, 1980.
After leaving school as a young man, he became a carpenter but soon decided that he wanted to become a priest. In 1977, Oscar Romero was appointed the Archbishop of San Salvador, and became a dedicated advocate on behalf of the poor and oppressed in El Salvador.
