Winter 2014: This can't end well (This can't go wrong)
This can't end well (This can't go wrong) presents work by artists contending with some kind of potent duality that co-exists within a piece.
Mark Rospenda's drawings, for example, simultaneously show the artist feeling anxious and scrabbling towards relief. Lisa Lindvay's photographs of her family depict her father and brothers struggling with difficult conditions and finding redemption in the collaborative making of the images. Kate Blomquist's paintings evince the impulse to re-make something better only to discover the imperfections can't be smoothed over and are, in fact, integral to the work's success.
The show is curated by Rachel Herman.
The exhibition will be in The Mary-Frances and Bill Veeck Gallery from February 21 to May 6, 2014.
