Maryknoll Centennial Symposium hosted by CTU
The Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers celebrated their 100th anniversary in 2011 with many events held throughout the country. CTU was pleased to host The Maryknoll Centennial Symposium: Church in Mission: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow from October 6 through October 8, 2011. Rev. Edward Dougherty, MM, Superior General of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, expressed his gratitude to CTU: “We are indebted to the faculty and staff at Catholic Theological Union at Chicago not only for their hospitality during these few days but also for their collaboration and support over many years of partnership.”
Fr. Donald Senior, C.P., who joined Fr. Dougherty in providing the welcome and opening ritual for the Symposium, also shared his gratitude to the Maryknoll community: “Catholic Theological Union has been extremely blessed to have the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers as one of its member communities. The Maryknoll community has brought its characteristic sense of mission to the school and, through its students, faculty members, and formation personnel, greatly enriched our preparation of men and women for the worldwide mission of the Church.”
The Symposium was a gathering of nearly 200 missionaries, church leaders, theologians, and others interested in the work of Maryknoll. Together they explored new perspectives of faith from Asia, Africa, and Latin American as a means to discover the gift of mission for our own life journey. CTU faculty who presented or facilitated at the symposium included: Scott Alexander, Fr. Steve Bevans, S.V.D., Carmen Nanko-Fernández, Sr. Barbara Reid, O.P., Fr. Robert Schreiter, C.PP.S., and Roger Schroeder, S.V.D.
