In times marked by increases in violence and intolerance, from Ferguson, MO to New York City, from Guerrero, Mexico to Northern Nigeria, what might African-American spiritual traditions offer to communities that are journeying in search of authenticity and wholeness?

Lecturer is Dr. C. Vanessa White, Assistant Professor of Spirituality and Ministry and Director of the Augustus Tolton Pastoral Ministry Program.

Liturgy follows at 4 p.m. Presider is Rev. Larry Dowling, Priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago, Pastor of St. Agatha Church.

CTU has had  the enormous good fortune to be the recipient of five paintings by noted artist Janet McKenzie. Ms. McKenzie’s painting, “Jesus of the People,” was the winner of National Catholic Reporter’s competition in 1999 to find the face of Jesus for a new millennium.

The events of the day will include lunch in the Mary-Frances and Bill Veeck Art Gallery followed by a reflection led by Robin Ryan, CP, on Pope Francis' Vision of the Church.

Any alumni who wish to do so may also attend the opening mass for the academic year - Mass of the Holy Spirit - at 4:30pm.
