Creating a Culture of Dialogue:

Reflections on the Common Good and Hospitality in the Catholic and Muslim Traditions

Bishop Robert W. McElroy of San Diego is the co-chair of the USCCB West Coast Muslim-Catholic Dialogue. He is a leading scholar on the topics of religious freedom and human dignity. His dissertation, John Courtney Murray and the Secular Crisis: Foundations for an American Catholic Public Theology, was the culmination of his doctoral studies in moral theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University. His PhD in political science is from Stanford University and was capped with his dissertation, Morality and American Foreign Policy: The Role of Moral Norms in International Affairs.

Dr. Sherman Jackson is King Faisal Chair in Islamic Thought and Culture and Professor of Religion and American Studies and Ethnicity at the University of Southern California Dornsife. His research interests begin in classical Islamic Studies, including law, theology and intellectual history, and extend to placing this legacy in conversation with the realities of modern Islam in the West, most especially Muslim communities in America. His forthcoming book is tentatively entitled: Beyond Good and Evil: Shari'ah and the Challenge of the Islamic Secular.
