More than any other issue in modern Jewish-Christian relations, the state of Israel has provoked intense disagreements. These reflect not just political differences but often profoundly different theologies of the land of Israel and the biblical promises. Dr. Gregerman will explore, from a Jewish perspective, the tensions between contemporary Christians’ broadly positive reappraisals of Judaism and more controversial Christian views of the state of Israel and biblical texts on land and covenant.

Professor Mark Nanos of the University of Kansas will provide a lecture titled "Translating Paul in the Light of NOSTRA AETATE."  Mark D. Nanos (Ph.D. University of St. Andrews), is a Jewish scholar who specializes on reading the Apostle Paul from within Judaism, an approach that offers new ways to conceptualize Paul’s teaching and communities as well as the potential for more promising Christian-Jewish relations. The core experience of the Peacebuilders Initiative is the weeklong summer program. Our participants learn the theology of peacebuilding, develop leadership skills, experience hands-on ministry in Chicago, and live in community with other Peacebuilders on our Hyde Park campus in Chicago.

The summer program lays the foundation in our goal to prepare Catholic young people to become agents of positive change in their schools, parishes, and neighborhoods.
