Our prolific faculty members continue to publish widely. In addition to their appointments, awards, and presentations, some of their writings include:
In June the Catholic Common Ground Initiative (CCGI) hosted its annual Murnion Lecture, named in honor of the late Monsignor Philip Murnion, founder and former Director of the National Pastoral Life Center. Catholics on Call, CTU’s national vocational discovery program for young adults, announced its newest co-sponsor, DePaul University. The Peacebuilders Initiative, a program of the Bernardin Center that prepares youth for active leadership roles in peacemaking and reconciliation, launched their new and improved website, www.peacebuildersinitiative.org, in the late spring.
In June we announced that CTU was forging an alliance with Rome’s Lay Centre, a unique and highly respected institution that provides a residence and community life for lay men and women who are doctoral students at the various pontifical universities in Rome. In addition, the Lay Centre runs a program of continuing education for people in Rome and provides high level briefings about Rome and the Vatican for boards of trustees of universities and other groups visiting the Eternal City.
Monsignor Velo was the recipient of the 2011 Blessed are the Peacemakers Award. The award is presented each year by the Board of Trustees of Catholic Theological Union to an institution, individual, or group of individuals whose accomplishments reflect the values of the mission of CTU, particularly in the areas of reconciliation, justice, and peacemaking.
