Institute of Religious Formation
Designed for formation directors and others with formation responsibilities in Roman Catholic religious communities and diocesan seminaries, the Institute of Religious Formation (IRF) offers a comprehensive, spiritual, collaborative, intellectual, and experiential approach to learning, life, and ministry—all focused within the context of formation. A trusted source in formation training since 1971, over 1,600 women and men have studied in the Institute of Religious Formation since its inception. The distinctive features of formation education at the Institute are:
- Interactive: reading, discussing, questioning, reflecting
- Community: praying, learning, celebrating, exploring together
- Multicultural: women and men of many nations unified by deep faith and worship, living and learning in a global city
In Vita Consecrata, Pope John Paul II states that when God through the Spirit places the attitudes of Jesus into the hearts of women and men, those who are called to the ministry of formation must be “very familiar with the path of seeking God so as to be able to accompany others on the journey. They will combine the illumination of spiritual wisdom with the light shed by human means, which can be a help both in discerning the call and in forming the new man or woman, until they are genuinely free.”
